Extreme poverty is the primary cause of the orphan crisis in Ethiopia.

Over 75 percent of Ethiopians live in multidimensional poverty, earning less than $2 a day. There are 4.5 million orphans in Ethiopia, and 70 percent are poverty orphans, meaning they have become orphans primarily due to extreme poverty.

Sustainable solutions allow families to stay together and thrive.

We work directly with impoverished families to keep them together by providing their most basic needs while working toward economic self-reliance and sustainability. We support children’s academic success while we offer their parents relational discipleship, economic empowerment and life skills training, counseling, and income generation opportunities.

Why Addis Jemari?

Family poverty and limited resources often lead to millions of children in Ethiopia facing the challenges of orphanhood. Being an orphan doesn’t necessarily mean lacking a mother or father; it signifies a lack of stable support. Addis Jemari (AJ) addresses this crisis by breaking the cycle of generational poverty through its Family Empowerment Program (FEP).

We intervene before families reach the breaking point, ensuring they stay together. Additionally, our AJ Home program supports orphaned and vulnerable girls, providing them with safe and nurturing environments.
